The test requires an athlete to finish the test at a rate of 20 curl-ups per minute. During this test, the athlete first warms up for about 10 minutes which is followed by setting up the metronome by an assistant to 20 beats/ minute. The athlete then lie-downs on the mat with his/her hand kept on the floor while the knees remain bent and feet kept flat on the floor. On the command of ‘Go’ the athlete starts the curl-ups as many in numbers as possible. The result is then analyzed and compared with the previous test. An increase in the number of curl-ups suggests that the core strength of the athlete has improved over time.

The tolerance ability and toughness of the shoulder extensors and elbow flexors which are parts of arm muscles is monitored by arm hang test. In this test, the upper body strength is tested. An athlete starts the test by warming up. The athlete then holds the bar which is placed at a height with palms facing them. During the test, the athlete is supposed to raise the chin above the surface of the bar and hold the position for as long as possible using the arm strength. The time is recorded until the athlete is able to remain in a specific position. The result is compared to the previous test and an increase in the holding time stipulates the athlete’s improvement in upper body strength.

As both the tests are done for different sets of muscles in the body that are present in different areas, the test cannot be interchanged with each other.
