Ais an emt who has passed specific additional training programs is authorized to provide some level of advanced life support

Most likely the question is referring to an Advanced EMT(AEMT). Advanced EMTS can preform more life support actions. I have heard that some local protocols allow an AEMT to intubate or administer nitro with out needing to contact medical direction.

It could also be a PEMT (Paramedic). This is less likely though because generally they are considered to be Advanced life support so wouldn't be limited in what they could do.
