The sinoatrial node regulates the heartbeat, pre-atrial contractions (PACs) happen when a region of the atria depolarizes before the sinoatrial node (which regulates the heartbeat, as mentioned before), therefore starting/triggering a premature heartbeat.

How do you treat pre-atrial contraction?
Pre-atrial contractions are usually not harmful, therefore it does not require treatment. However, pre-atrial contraction is something that is often troubling and bothersome. In these cases where it is bothersome, the doctor may decide to treat it, that is if there is a more serious, underlying problem that could be linking to heart disease or other medical heart problems that require treatment. Betablocker is an example of a medication that can be prescribed by the doctor depending on the heart problem and it's severity.
