Abstract Stone Mountain is an exposed granitic Pluto, located in Northeast Georgia. Uniformitarian estimates suggest that the granite was intruded into overlying metamorphic rocks during the last stages of the Alleghenian Orogeny. Later the mountain became exposed at the earth's surface. The uniformitarian model for the formation of Stone Mountain remains unresolved.
