As a student what can you do to lessen the impact of climate change

Become as informed as you can on the subject. Read the IPCC reports (https://www.ipcc.ch/publications_and_data/publications_and_data_reports.shtml ) . Look at the information at RealClimate. Talk to your family and classmates about the issues related to climate change.

Then examine your own use of energy and think of ways to minimize uses that don't come from renewable energy. Look for ways in which your local governments can use less energy and save money in the process. Then write to the government officials about what they can do better and also show up at their open meetings to talk to them about doing better.

Write to those who represent you at the national level, and indicate that your views are consistent with the best science. Ask them to write legislation that will support the recent agreement in Paris.

If you really want to get heavily involved, find a few like-minded people of any ages, and develop public informational rallies to help your community better understand how to reduce it's use of fossil fuels.

Keep learning about science in general and climate science in particular.
