The grand canyon is like a history book because of its deeply carved canyons and the rock layers that the river exposed by weathering over a long period of time which tells a history of the conditions that existed there for exponentially long time for above and below surface.

Answermost of the time it would be ground into fine sediment,and sometimes they are carried away from the original location;
