Washington's deepest and largest seaports are Seattle on Elliott Bay and Tacoma on Commencement Bay. These world-class natural harbors handle the largest ships afloat that haul bulk cargo (wheat, lumber, and others), general cargo (vehicles, electronics, and consumer goods), and 20-foot steel containers (general commodities). Each port unloads more than two million of these 20-foot containers annually that come from all over the world. Seattle and Tacoma are among the largest container and dollar value ports in the United States and world. What do the ports in Seattle and Tacoma have in common?

Both are located on major rivers in Washington state.
