A drainage basin is an area of land where all precipitation flows downhill and collects in a body of water (such as rivers, lakes, wetlands, oceans). On the "Continental Divides of North America " Slide 4, you will see the divides of North America outlined. These divides mark the boundaries of each drainage basin. Notice that one of them cuts through the middle of a major southern city (one that you may be familiar with). If rain were to fall within the Androscoggin Basin (one of the blue placemarks, zoom in), in what major water body would it end up? Why? (Hint: you can click on the placemark icon for some additional literature.)
