In the case that such a tropical typhoon or cyclone is clashing to a coastline it's getting slowed down rapidly, and it's energy is unloaded on the coastal region, tearing trees and buildings down and flooding the area. 

Monsoons are extremely useful for rice production, thus rice is a staple grain in the many cultures of Asia. Cyclones and typhoons, however, may be detrimental to the society, so the culture in the region is very inclusive and they all help each other when faced with adversity similar to these natural disasters.
