How did the Soviet people lose their freedom to communist

1) The Soviet People of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics never "lost their freedom". The Soviet people distinguished the people starting from the era of the U.S.S.R to the fall of the U.S.S.R in 1991.

The people of Eastern Europe and Russia lost their freedom to the Communist Regime, as they failed to find more common ground then just hatred to the Communist. Many times, these different groups (commonly known as "White Russians"), also fought against each other, which furthered weakened the military strength of the anti-communists. Foreign aid usually fell into the hands of corrupt officials, and rarely was used to help in the war effort. Without a better common goal, and the failure to run an adequate army and government, the White Russians lost and were expelled or absorbed into the Soviets.
