The spread of malaria can be prevented by protecting oneself against mosquito bites. This include wearing long-sleeve clothing to reduce the amount of exposed skin, the use of insecticide-treated bed nets, and the use of insect repellent on exposed skin. The spread of malaria can also be prevented by chemoprophylaxis which is the administration of antimalarial drugs to prevent malaria. Antimalarial drugs such as mefloquine and doxycycline can be taken by individuals who are travelling to countries where malaria is prevalent in order to minimize the spread of malaria.
