The stratosphere is characterized by the a stable and warmer and a less dense air that is cool and thus there is a very little mixing and is different from those of the other layers.  It is stratified in terms of the temperature layers as a result of the absorption of the rays of the sun.  Found at an altitude of about 33,000 feet, temperature varies with the seasons. Has a single-celled circulation that spans for the tropics to the poles and its predominantly waves driven. A possible life of bacteria can be found in this layer. It was discovered in 1902 by the Léon Teisserenc de Bort from France by the presence of the isothermal layer at the 11–14 km.
