There are numerous biomes around the world, and there are two general rules about their distribution, that being the latitude and altitude. In the latitudes between 30 degrees North and 30 degrees South there are five biomes:

- tropical rainforest

- steppe

- savanna

- desert

- montane

The tropical rainforest biome is located on the lowest latitudes. It has constant climate throughout the year, and it is the richest terrestrial biome with life.

The savanna is a semi-arid biome, where the high grasses dominate. It is located just north and south of the tropical rainforests. It has short rainy season, and long dry season.

The deserts are the hottest and one of the driest biomes in the world. They are located north and south of the savanna. They have precipitation levels lower than 250 mm annually, and in general are poor with living organisms when compared to the other biomes.

The steppe at this latitudes can be found only in the western of Australia. It is a semi arid biome, transitional between the desert and the savanna. It is slightly more dry than the savanna, which has resulted in it having short grasses instead of high ones.

The montane biome at this latitudes is only found in the western part of South America, on the Andes. This biome is mostly dictated by the altitude. It has strong winds, cold weather, and the precipitation levels are not very high. The landscape is dominate by alpine flora.
