A) a lake has a surface area of 2.40 acres. if the average annual precipitation is 38.5 inches/year, what is the annual flow rate (in ft3/yr) of precipitation into the lake?
b) using the flow rate you just calculated, determine the volume of the precipitation in ft3 that would enter the lake in a 2- year period.
c) convert your answer in (b) from ft3 to acre- ft
d) a stream with an average annual flow rate of 0.0120 ft3//sec discharges into the lake. calculate the volume of water in ft3 that would enter the lake in a 2-year period.
e) in our example there is no stream leaving the lake, so we can assume evaporation is the only loss. if the average evaporation rate of the lake is 49.6 inches/year, what is the volume of water in ft3 that would be lost from the lake in a 2-year period?
f) based on the above inputs and outputs, calculate the change in lake storage in ft3 over a 2-year period.
g) assume the lake has vertical sides, hence volume= l x w x h. based on the change in storage you just calculated, determine how many feet the lake elevation rose or fell at the end of 2 years.
