The moon in "Embers of Moonlight" changes from a grand, shining, ivory figure, to a dead pile of embers. This change is first documented in the story when the narrator describes the moon's ivory glow becoming faded and transparent. Later, the narrator looks down at the moon, who has crumbled into a shimmering pile of dust, showing the end of this change.
