On the other hand, the structural approach understood language as a structure that can be described by understanding the units that composed it which are not fixed but varies according to multiple linguistic elements.

Due to this, structural linguistics criticized the traditional linguistics in terms of grammar as they believed there were multiple fallacies or incorrect ideas in considering grammar from the perspective traditional linguistics did. This included the normative fallacy as in traditional grammar there are standards for using the language, but according to structural linguistics language change and there are no static norms for it; the semantic fallacy as in traditional grammar the study of language is guided the meaning of words, but for structural linguistics this was not precise or objective and the logical fallacy as traditional grammar supported the idea of universal laws that could be applied to all languages but structural linguistics believed this was not true.
