Romeo's reaction to light illustrates his gloomy mood.

Romeo's father, Montague, describes his son sad and melancholic  feelings. As soon as the sun rises, Romeo draws the curtains from his chamber. He  wants to be in the dark: "..Shuts up his windows, locks fair daylight out,..". He makes a light to himself , which is very weak. Montague does not know why his son is melancholic.

These options are wrong:

-tiring work schedule. Romeo has not been working.

-budding romance. Montague refers to Romeo's melancholy. He does not know if he is thinking about love. Besides, love can be associated with light not with darkness.

-religious faith. Nothing is said about religion.
