1. In "Marriage is a Private Affair," Nnaemeka obviously respects his father but he also does not want to blindly follow his orders because of love. In "A Meeting in the Dark," John's father also does not approve of his choice for a wife. Both fathers care deeply about religion and heritage.

2. Self-worth is fueled by a sense of pride and this pride often comes from achievements or communal solidarity. When colonizers attempt to take away the land of native Africans, they see it as an attachment to their heritage, their pride, and ultimately, their self-worth. They will try to resist until they are no longer capable of doing so. When this happens, their self-worth decreases which are also the start of the end of their tribal heritage.

In the prompt 1, the questions aim to know how the two events are affected by the personalities of the young men and their parents. it is seen that in the two stories the young men are worried about the disapproval that their relationship has by their parents.
