The lines speak out of the feeling of “regret.” It is a regret that comes only after the deed was over and done. The images of “much sighing, never-ending rue, and the realization that all that the persona did was in vain or worthless” reveal his true feelings. All these can be summarized in the familiar expressions: “if only I listened to advice” and “what has been done cannot be undone.” This was a sad realization that the advice of the wise man should have been heeded.

This poem uses the ABCBCDAD rhyme in the first stanza. Then, in the second stanza, the rhyme used is ABCBADAD. The meaning of this poem is about advice or advice to young men/women, who as usual are not obeyed. In the end, the young man experienced exactly what was suggested. Gradually as we get older, awareness begins to land. Although, everything was getting late. Hearts have been given, while the recipient may not be as expected.
