In his famous story "The Call of the Wild", Buck, a domestic dog, is only successful at surviving because he's able to awaken his primitive instincts and let go of his comfortable past. In "To Build a Fire", London explores how ruthless nature is to men who don't know how to fear and respect its force. London had a Naturalist writing style, being straightforward and descriptive in his narrative.
