“How dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier that man who believes his native town to be the world, than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will allow”(43). We have all heard expressions: “Ignorance is bliss” or “There’s no place like home.” Victor is further suggesting that a person who learns too much will want to be god, or at least something more that s/he was meant to be.
