One of the best biopics ever, packed with some incredible performances by the cast, especially Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Cooper. The movie delivers all the beats that a family movie needs to.

Based on the incredible true story of Homer Hickam Jr. and his fellow Rocket Boys, the film has well - developed and well - acted characters. One of the most memorable scenes for me in this movie were that of Homer and Miss Riley's. Both of them had such a great chemistry, the student - teacher relationship they had is so heart - warming and incredible that I only wished that I had something like that.

Despite being one of the best actors of his time, Jake Gyllenhaal so far is very underrated and seems to be unappreciated by the Hollywood's elite, and this movie offered those moments that showed just how great he is.

Homer's father played in this movie by Cooper is a very interesting character that is somehow fully sucked into the coal mines of the town mentally and emotionally and feels like he is trapped in their forever. All his anger, frustration, his unrelenting pride are beautifully portrayed by Cooper that leaves you gut wrenching and his subsequent evolution makes so touching.

The film is very inspiring, a great character oriented film, with a beautiful music by Mark Isham that neatly captures their unique traits.
