Olivia has gotten a new job. She is a hardworking person and has always succeeded at whatever she has set her
mind to through hard work. Tomorrow is her first day of
work.
Which of the following stage directions best convey the basic elements of
this character?
A. Olivia dashes into her bedroom. She scrambles frantically to
locate a pen, which she uses to scrawl a hasty note. She flings the
note into her purse, flings herself - fully clothed – with equal
energy into her bed, and the room goes silent. A moment later, a
hand reaches out and finds the light switch. The room goes dark.
B. Olivia sits motionless at her computer, playing a video game with
zombie-like intensity. Her roommate peeks her head in the door,
points to the clock, and gestures as though to say, "Isn't it late?"
Without looking directly at her, Olivia shoos her away with her
hand and continues playing.
C. Olivia saunters into her bedroom laughing enthusiastically on her
phone. The clock reads 2:25. She kicks off a shoe violently. It hits
the wall, an event she ignores. She steps out of the other shoe and
lies on the bed, mumbling noises of uncommitted conversation.
D. Olivia walks into her bedroom purposefully. Neatly stacked on a
desk is the portfolio from McCormick Inc. and a set of reference
books. On a wardrobe hangs a pressed suit. A note on the
computer reads "Bedtime 9:30 tonight!"
