Background: Closing arguments in a court case work as a means to summarize all of the testimony the jury hears and into a neat package so that when they go to deliberate,
the most important aspects of the case are at the front of their minds. Closing
arguments usually review the "highlights” of the evidence for your side while
diminishing the opposing side's evidence. It more or less functions as a “mic drop".
Task: Choose your side of the trail, either prosecution (wants to remove Pearl from
Hester's custody), or defense (wants to let Hester keep Pearl). Write a persuasive closing
argument that summarizes the most important aspects of your side of the case that
would really convince a jury to side with you.
Required Elements:
• Must be persuasive (mic drop!)
Must consist of a multi-paragraph structure
• Must consist of a summary of your sides evidence
• Must diminish the opposing sides viewpoint
