7. In this clip, Michael suggests that the story about the man helping the women jump from the window is “totally unnecessary for Marrin to include” and is “another spot where he makes stuff up.” How do Anna and Ms. Leonard react? Chris: Woah, woah, woah. So this is all the men’s fault? What about the guy that helped the woman jump from the window?
Ana: Oh my god. It was heartbreaking.
Michael: And totally unnecessary for Marrin to include.
Christina: Wait, why?
Michael: It’s just another spot where he makes stuff up, right?
Ana: No, he uses a quote! “Someone saw the man kiss the woman before they jumped.”
Michael: Yeah but look at the quote: “He was brave enough to help the girl he loved.” There’s no way that the men on the street could have known that those two were in love.
Christina: Yeah, I guess that’s true. Ms. Leonard: But it makes the story more powerful, doesn’t it? And isn’t that Marrin’s intention? I mean, storytellers sometimes choose to dramatize a story to convey emotion. It's different than making stuff up.
