On Neptune, the Blue Planet, all the aliens were the same shade of blue. No one was light blue or royal blue, sapphire or turquoise, but the aliens were the exact same shade of dark navy blue—except for shiny Delincia. For an unknown reason that mystified everyone, Delincia’s skin shone like a blue diamond, and she sparkled while the other aliens looked plain. When Delincia floated by, all the aliens would stare at her, and say things like, “Can I buy you some space ice cream, beautiful?”
But Delincia didn’t enjoy the attention, and she definitely didn’t want any special treatment. She wanted to be treated like everyone else and fit in, but the other aliens would not accept her as one of them.
One dark, cold night in the middle of a storm that rocked the whole planet, Delincia went to a dance party, staying in the corner for most of the night, except for the few times that she ventured to the buffet tables for snacks. Delincia was pouring herself a glass of fruit punch when the alien Devenel startled her.
Tapping Delincia on the “That’s OK!” Devenel said in the same moment that the alien Shellaba passed by with a plate full of food.

, Devenel asked, “Would you like to dance?” Delincia was so taken aback that she accidentally spilled fruit punch all over Devenel.
“I’m so sorry!” she exclaimed as he shrugged.
Shellaba was the clumsiest alien on Neptune, and it was no surprise when she tripped and a carrot stick from her plate flew through the air, hitting Devenel. Furious, Devenel shouted at Shellaba until Delincia’s voice rose above them all.
“I will not allow you to scream at Shellaba! I spilled red punch all over you, which is much worse than what she did” Delincia said. She stormed out of the party, determined not to speak to any of the aliens until they treated her equally.
