the short story?

The theme in the sound of thunder is that actions have consequences. When Eckels steps on the butterfly he causes a chain reaction of events that causes humanity to get less smart and for the president to change to someone else. The evidence we have of this is when Eckels gets back from the past and sees the sign for the tyrannosaurus rex hunting is spelled incorrectly.
