Hi. I have a problem I need help with: Is A or B right and why? A and B are disagreeing about punctuation for a direct quote from a story they have read. What is the proper punctuation?

The quote is from page 3 of Night by Elie Wiesel.
"By day I studied Talmud and by night I would run to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the Temple."

They want to write it into their story like: Every day, "[Wiesel] studied Talmud and by night [Wiesel] would run to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the temple"

Person A thinks the quote should be quoted like: Every day, "[Wiesel] studied Talmud and by night [Wiesel] would run to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the temple," (3).

Person B thinks the quote should be quoted like: Every day, "[Wiesel] studied Talmud and by night [Wiesel] would run to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the temple" (3).

Looking mainly at the ending punctuation. Thanks!
