A student is writing a research report about why people should eat less salt. Read the paragraph of her report, below, and then complete the instructions that follow,
Salt is a mineral our bodies need, but we only need a little bit of salt to survive. The truth is that most people eat too much salt. Evidence has shown that eating more salt than is required leads to high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the
blood vessels (arteries, to be exact) as the heart pumps blood. Having high blood pressure means this force is too high. High blood pressure is
a major cause of strokes, heart attacks, and heart failures. These are the most common causes of illness and death worldwide. How can people
avoid eating too much salt? They can eat less packaged and pre-made food, which usually has a lot of salt. People should eat fresh whole foods
as often as possible. But when people are buying packaged foods, they can read the labels to select the versions with less salt. Finally, using
other seasonings or lemon juice instead of salt can add flavor to foods. Just about everyone can benefit from eating less salt.

The student found evidence to back up her claim, "most people eat too much salt". Which choice below is a piece of evidence that best supports this
claim?

A. Most people also eat too much sugar which causes a variety of
health problems.

B. people need less than 1500 milligrams of salt a day (less than a teaspoon), but most people eat at
least twice that much.

C. An important nutrient called iodine is usually added to table salt which ensures that most people will get plenty of it.

D. Competitive athletes lose a large amount of salt when they sweat a lot.
