Unit 2, Lesson 5 MODIFIED Portfolio Directions: In Unit 2, you have a two part portfolio. You will complete this portfolio in Lesson
5 for your rough draft, and then you will use this rough draft to complete a compare-contrast
essay to be submitted in Unit 2, Lesson 13.
In Units 1 and 2, we read various works from different parts of the Americas. Within these
pieces, we saw writers address similar topics such as identity, the individual, and life in
general.
Compare and/or contrast characterization, symbols, or imagery in two different works to
identify how these writers develop themes on your chosen topic. You will choose TWO works
from the list below. Write a 4-5 paragraph essay which includes an introduction paragraph,
body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. You must use textual evidence from both
works to support your ideas.
"The Day of Butterfly (33) "No Dogs Bark" (46) "A Sad Vaudeville" (53) "When Greek Meets
Greek" (72) "The Youngest Doll" (81) "The Third Bank of the River" (98) "The Book of Sand"
(106), "The Censors" (112) "And of Clay Are We Created" (120)
