CHARACTERS: GOMEZ, the father
DIANA, the mother
JULIO, the eldest son
MICAH, Julio's little brother
CARLA, Julio's wife
AVA, Carla and Julio's daughter

Stage Set: The kitchen. Gomez is sitting on a chair, sipping coffee, and reading the paper. He turns around to face the wall when Julio approaches.

JULIO: Papa! We are leaving now.
GOMEZ: (Still facing the wall) Uh huh
DIANA: Would you at least say goodbye to his face?
GOMEZ: Alright. Goodbye. (melts a little upon locking eyes with Ava)
JULIO: It's not like we are thousands of miles away. I will be coming home every holiday.
GOMEZ: Not with your own new family.
JULIO: Papa! Micah is here. You left your father to move to the city, didn't you? Why is it so wrong when I do it?
GOMEZ: Because . . . I did not take a baby away from him . . . his only grandchild. I left because I had to.
JULIO: (Sitting on the floor next to the chair where Gomez is sitting) Papa! You know, I have to as well, right?
GOMEZ: Aren't there any jobs for you in this city? Are you too good to live here?
JULIO: Living here is your dream. I want my own dream now, Papa! I have to do it for Ava and the little one on the way. Did Grandpa stop you? Did you stop?
GOMEZ: No! Nobody can ever stop me.
JULIO: Sometimes you've got to let others be unstopped, too.
DIANA: Have faith in him, dear. Carla and Julio both have jobs of their dreams there.
GOMEZ: Just go. Don't drag it out. Take Ava away before she sees me cry. Just go already! Don't make me wait to see Ava until her next birthday.
