The following passage narrates “Briar Rose” from the first-person point of view. Which character from “Briar Rose” is the narrator? An old man told me that inside the forest there was a hidden palace, where a beautiful princess called Briar Rose lived. He said that the palace was surrounded by a thick, hedge and that many men had died in their struggle to enter it. He warned me that I might die too if I tried to enter the hedge. But I was determined to see Briar Rose. I told him that I wasn’t afraid, and I rode toward the forest.

To my surprise, the hedge was very easy to enter. It was full of lovely shrubs and flowers, but the palace was entirely silent. All the animals were so still. I wondered if they were real or statues.

Ead this excerpt from the introduction to wheels of change by sue macy. imagine a population imprisoned by their very clothing; the stiff corsets, heavy skirts, and voluminous petticoats that made it difficult to take a deep breath, let alone exercise. add to that the laws and social conventions that cemented a man's place as head of the household and holder of the purse strings. how suffocated women must have felt. and how liberated they must have been as they pedaled their wheels toward new horizons. why does the author include this excerpt?
