On rainy weekends, when her brothers and sisters were perfectly content to just lounge around the house, Kalley was bouncing off the
walls, impatient to do something-anything--Involving vigorous activity. Recognizing this tendency as a positive trait, her parents urged her to
participate in a variety of sports. She enjoyed all sports activities, but running was always her favorite.
Now, as a member of the middle school track team, she was the top sprinter. Recently, though, she had been forming a new goal. In the
past, she had always avoided long distance running. Preferring the explosive effort of shorter races, she lacked confidence in her ability to pace
herself for longer periods. But the team coach insisted that Kailey needed a new challenge, so she agreed to start training for longer races.
This morning, as she tied her sneakers, she felt a little nervous. What if she got bored on longer runs? What if she ran out of steam? But it's
