Read this passage from “The Story of an Hour.” What is ironic about the following exchange between Mrs. Mallard and her sister? Josephine was kneeling before the closed door with her lips to the keyhole, imploring for admission. "Louise, open the door! I beg; open the door--you will make yourself ill. What are you doing, Louise? For heaven's sake open the door."

"Go away. I am not making myself ill." No; she was drinking in a very elixir of life through that open window.

Her fancy was running riot along those days ahead of her. Spring days, and summer days, and all sorts of days that would be her own. She breathed a quick prayer that life might be long. It was only yesterday she had thought with a shudder that life might be long.

Josephine is worried that Mrs. Mallard is grieving excessively, but Mrs. Mallard is enjoying the idea of her freedom.

Josephine knows that the weather is going to make Mrs. Mallard ill if she does not shut her window.

Mrs. Mallard is praying that life might be long but everyone thinks she is praying that her life will be short.

Mrs. Mallard wants Josephine to go away, but Josephine is worried about Mrs. Mallard.
