The goal of this project was to provide students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of
argumentative writing,
Prioritized Standards
RI2 Determine a central idea in a text and provide a summary of a text distinct from personal
opinions or judgements.
R18: Determine an author's point of view and purpose in a text and explain how the author's point of
view and purpose are conveyed in a text
L3: Use knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening
SL1: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions with diverse partners on grade 8
topics, texts, and issues, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly
W1: Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
Instructions:
1) Carefully read the prompt and assignment instructions along with your feedback from your rough
draft (typically received within 1-2 school days after you submit)
2) Review the rubric before uploading and submitting your work
3) Submit each stage of the writing process as you complete them: 1) Prewriting Graphic organizer.
2) (Rough) Draft, and 3) (Final Draft) Revising.
4) Review the instructions for and schedule your OBA after submitting your final draft (you will be
allowed to revise and resubmit if needed)
