80 POINTS AND BRAINLIEST A final draft is the last version of your essay, and the one that you will submit for grading. Because of all the work you did on your outline and first draft, the final draft should be easy to write. You will be looking for any errors to correct, or places where you could improve the language. There should not be any major revisions at this point; this is the place to refine and polish your writing. Once you are happy with your final draft, you will submit it to your instructor for review.

OBJECTIVES

Utilize a checklist to edit and revise the first draft of a research paper to write the final version of the research paper.

CREATING YOUR FINAL DRAFT

Direction Instruction:

You will use the first draft created in the Project First Draft Lesson to write your final draft. If you havenтАЩt already, now is a good time to read your essay aloud to yourself or a friend. Listen for any awkward sentences or missing words.

After reading your essay aloud, make any necessary changes, then carefully read through it one more time. Look for any spelling errors or other minor errors that you may have overlooked. You can have a friend read over your essay, as well; sometimes a fresh pair of eyes will catch an error that youтАЩve missed

Once you are happy with your draft, use the following checklist for a final review for your essay. You should look at the rubric here to make sure you are meeting all the criteria for the assignment.

Final Draft Checklist

Does your essay meet the requirements of the assignment (five paragraphs, textual evidence, and citations)?

Does your essay include a thesis statement that is supported by at least three main ideas (in the body paragraphs)?

Does your introduction include an interesting hook, narrow the focus, and introduce your thesis statement?

Do your body paragraphs include a main idea, supporting evidence, textual evidence, and citations?

Does your evidence come from multiple, reliable resources?

Do your body paragraphs guide and inform the reader in a clear and organized way?

Does your conclusion restate your thesis statement, summarize your main ideas, and end with a call to action or closing statement?

Are your sentences smooth and free of grammatical or spelling errors?

Have you incorporated feedback from your peers/teachers to improve your writing?

Does your essay make sense and use transitions to move from one idea to the next?

What is the strongest part of your essay?

Submit your final draft of your research paper that meets all of the written requirements and shows evidence of strong revisions that improve the paper, overall.
