Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish born American industrialist who amassed a great fortune during his time in the steel industry, eventually becoming a philanthropist. He led the expansion of the American steel industry, becoming a dominant force for the industry in the late 19th century and had become one of the richest Americansin history. He later sold Carnegie Steel Company to John Pierpont Morgan in 1901 for $480 million. Carnegie then devoted the remainder of his life to philanthropy, eventually giving away more than $350 million.
