Although most of the chapters in Douglass’s narrative contain no more than 5 pages, Chapter X contains no fewer than 30 pages. In fact, Chapter X contains more than twice as many pages as any other chapter in the book. Why might Douglass choose to organize his chapters in this way? Why might he make Chapter X so long?
