As you build your outline, you are free to find new sources and to get rid of old sources that you no longer find helpful. However, your new sources must meet the requirements from the Lesson 1 assignment: They must be credible and relevant, and at least one must represent a different medium from the others. In Lesson 3, you will use this outline to write a research paper. Your outline should include the following elements:
A claim that expresses the ultimate point of your essay about a historical hoax
At least two main ideas that support the claim
Supporting points and pieces of evidence that back up each main idea
Information about the source of each piece of evidence
An introduction, body, and conclusion
At least three credible and relevant sources from at least two different media
You should have completed a draft of this assignment in the activity before this one. If you haven't done so, go back and complete that activity now.
Ask yourself these questions as you revise:
Does my claim say something broad enough to cover the scope of the whole outline but narrow enough to be direct and specific?
Do my main ideas directly support my claim? Would they sound natural if added to my claim after the word because?
Do I have enough evidence to support my main ideas and any supporting points that fall under those main ideas? Does that evidence come from credible sources?
Is my outline easy to follow? Does it arrange ideas in a way that will make sense to another reader, especially my teacher? Do I follow the guidelines for structuring a traditional outline?
