The narrator has a feeling he will meet funny -strange- people. They all will look upper-class and elegant -slender- but their attitude and behaviour will be disruptive and quarelsome -riotous. So, the characters will behave in an unusual way. In spite of the fact, they will have all they wish for - the American Dream-, they will be unhappy .Fitzgerald, the author, criticises this American Dream. This is the reason why the narrator will meet people who are apparently happy but they, in fact, they are not. This is what makes the setting mostly strange and violent.
