In act 1 describe brutus as either a betrayer or patriot

I think Brutus is a betrayer of Caesar and Rome because Brutus’s decision was irrational. Although he was a good friend of Caesar, he was easily deceived by the fake letter and readily decide to kill Caesar. If he were a true friend of Caesar, it is logical to find out the truth whether Caesar is truly ambitious or not. However, he ignores the fact and carries on the action to kill Caesar: because he believed that Caesar was an overly ambitious, egocentric, and tyrant man who will make Rome decline. Moreover, after he kills Caesar, he justifies his action as a worthy; he says he genuinely loved Caesar but not much as Rome and tries to protect Rome from dictatorship. By using appeal to ethnic, he persuades Roman that he operated a moral plan for Rome’s best with the emphasizes of people who are against his idea is against Roman’s fundamental idea.

However, some may argue that Brutus is a patriot because he killed Caesar because he sincerely considers Rome’s best, and had to make a hard decision, to save his homeland and that he should be considered as a patriot.

Yet, I disagree with this point because Brutus, later, kills himself due to guilt that he made Rome weaken. I think this is an irresponsible reaction because he must take the responsibility to keep Rome safe and strong since he is a one who kills Caesar. For this reason, I think Brutus is not a patriot since he kills himself and did not take care of Rome. Moreover, murder cannot be justified despite his intention.
