Studying overseas can be a life-altering event. not only do you get to live in another country and learn a new language (if indeed the country does not speak the same language of your native tongue), but also you learn about a new culture. you get to experience firsthand what most tourists never catch—a thorough immersion in a different way of life. while tourists only graze the surface and generally see the “touristy-type” areas, once you live in a location for a few months or more, you become accustomed to the ways of the town. you get to hang out at local hot-spots and become friendly with locals. you make lifelong friends and have an appreciation for others who live differently than you.
