First the abundance of victorian poetry a century before.

Chinese, Japanese, and Greek poetry, as well as metaphysical poets.

A need for change to be basic.

20th Century poets decided they have had enough from romantic, victorian poetry and qualified it as excessive. Therefore they decided they needed to stay away from those guidelines and decided to look for Chinese, Japanese, and greek models that would help them define what we know as "imagine". The reason behind this was that they believed victorian poetry eas exaggerated and that real people required words of poetry. So they aimed the common men, instead of those the victorian poetry targeted.
