Greetings, fellow americans!
in the throes of the great war, it is now more urgent than ever that we must pass the 18th amendment, calling for a nationwide prohibition on intoxicating liquors. do you want our wonderful nation to be polluted with staggering, sick, lazy drunkards? as a member of the ohio temperance society, we have long been calling for a ban against this evil vice of drink. more and more "american" citizens are living immoral lives. if these ungodly people continue this way, they will shake the foundations of this country and violate the principles that america was built upon. our lord, who watches from the heavens, may not want to bless our country anymore, resulting in our gradual decline and fall from grace. if we don't stop now, we might all accompany lucifer in the afterlife.
furthermore, there are pressing practical reasons for this ban on alcohol. as you all know, our soldiers are risking their very lives to fight for us in the great war, and they need the best nourishment they can get. grain that is made into alcohol should be conserved to make bread for our troops. selfishly hoarding it to produce alcohol is the most un-american thing a citizen can do, bordering on treason. additionally, every year a lot of federal money is spent keeping drunks off the streets. if no one drank, this would no longer be a problem. not only would we not need to spend our tax dollars on keeping them in prison, but these citizens could also contribute to society instead of wasting their lives on alcohol.
for my fellow americans, and for the fate of this country, i urge our government to pass the 18th amendment soon.
