Under what circumstances might conformity be wise? when might it be foolish?

It may be wise on one hand because you will be looked at as a rule follower and no one will pay any attention if you were to break a rule. It may be foolish because some of the rules and laws that are made are not very helpful and could ruin any set plans in the future.
