The subject is Throughout the book, a lot of characters like (Jem, Tom Robinson, Dill, Boo Radley, Mr. Raymond) can be identified as mockingbirds—innocents who have been injured or destroyed through contact with evil. The main theme is "It is a sin to kill a mockingbird" in other words, picking on people who are helpless and don't do harm is a terrible thing.
