In his closing remarks, Atticus tells the jury: β€œβ€™ I am no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of the courts and in the jury system – that is no ideal to me, it is a living, working reality.”’ However, considering that he already knows justice will not be served and that Tom will be found guilty, is Atticus being disingenuous when he tells the jury he believes that he believes in the integrity of the justice system? Or were there other reasons he would say this to the jury?
