Directions: you will now write an original opening scene of a story. You may choose any point-of-view for your narrative. Remember your goal is to create a mood for your reader. Decide which mood you would
like to create (check the previous adjectives you chose like supernatural, somber, inspiring, etc.) Try and
appeal to more than one sense smell, hearing, touch etc. Find inspiration somewhere., whether it be
fiction, drama, coming-of age, science fiction, biography. Your reader should feel a sense of your setting
based on the vivid details and word choices in your writing. Your opening scene must be a minimum of
150 words and no more than 300. You will be working on this for about a week. This is an important part of the creative process.
