He wrote one of his first poems for her, substituting her real name for “Helen.” In the poem “To Helen,” he described her immense beauty and his feelings for the woman. For Poe, beauty and death was forever fused. Poe’s early life included reading long passages of poems to entertain his adoptive parent’s guests.
