Read the passage below: I can remember the first time I heard the story of "Rumpelstiltskin." I sat enthralled at the feet of a dedicated librarian, with my legs bouncing up and down on a colorful rug in excitement, waiting anxiously to find out what would happen to the young queen. It is because of experiences like this that I developed a love for reading literature of all kinds. Today, children may not enjoy these same experiences, because, more often, counties are deciding to decrease funding for public libraries. Many libraries are complaining that they are not able to offer competitive pay to recruit staff, or purchase books to increase their collections. Something has to be done. Counties must devote more spending to fund public libraries to ensure that children have access to a variety of books, quality staff, and up-to-date facilities.
